How to research a tokenized asset

Start with the represented right
Identify what the token holder receives and against whom they can enforce that right. Do not infer these terms from the ticker, blockchain or promotional material.
Follow the chain of responsibility
Find the issuer, the party responsible for the asset, the custodian and the trading platform. Check whether their roles are identified and which documents support each claim.
Distinguish the source
A figure published by an issuer must be attributed to that issuer. A verified fact must explain what was checked, against which source and when. Anything that cannot be checked must remain marked as unverified.
Check what is missing
A missing document is an open question. Update dates, available audits and an identified smart contract help organise research; they cannot on their own establish that an investment is suitable.
