Aviva tokenizes GBP and USD funds on XRP Ledger: amounts explained

Aviva on XRP Ledger: a disclosed GBP 50 million investment, over GBP 86 million across two classes and why total fund assets are different.
Editorial review: 2026-10-27What was announced on 26 October
Aviva Investors added a tokenized Sterling Liquidity Fund share class after launching its USD class on 29 July 2026. The change concerns digital fund shares; it does not move the entire debt portfolio onto a blockchain.
Three different measures
The whole GBP fund manages approximately GBP 22 billion. Aviva disclosed a GBP 50 million investment in the new tokenized class. Both classes held over GBP 86 million, reported as USD 116 million. These figures are dated 26 October, not live balances. The individual USD balance is not broken out: subtracting 50 from 86 does not yield an official figure.
The digital twin model
The GBP fund represents holdings on-chain while retaining its off-chain legal structure. It is an Irish UCITS money market fund established in 2002. The USD class belongs to a conventional fund launched in 2020; its tokenized launch received Central Bank of Ireland approval. Both target daily liquidity through high-quality short-term debt in their respective currencies.
Infrastructure, custody and access
XRP Ledger records the tokenized class; Ripple supports the project, Licuido provides infrastructure and Komainu digital custody. The Bank of New York Mellon holds the underlying fund assets. Access requires eligibility and a digital wallet. Fund terms still govern subscriptions and redemptions.
Implications for RWA and XRP
This illustrates blockchain distribution for existing funds. Buying XRP does not confer fund ownership. Network fees and reserves use XRP, but fund amounts are not equivalent XRP purchases. Continuous blockchain operation also does not guarantee redemptions at any time.
What to check next
Profiles distinguish fund assets, disclosed investments and combined totals. Confirm documents, minimums, fees, eligibility and exit terms before transacting. No on-chain balance or issuer address has been validated. Capital remains at risk.
